Lip products are probably one of my most collected beauty items – and its more than just great colour but a truly great formula that wins me over. So when I saw the rave reviews for the MAKEUP BY MARIO MoistureGlow™ Plumping Lip Serum I just knew I had to test it for myself. I finally got my hands on my desired shade Apricot Glow and after testing it for a few weeks I've got some thoughts -
WHAT IS IT
A hydrating, melting, glossy balm that drenches lips in a dew-like shine. This serum texture melts onto lips while a blend of vegan conditioning oils visibly plump, nourish, and hydrate. The glossy balm comes in a variety of shades including:
Bare Glow - light nude pink
Apricot Glow - warm peach
Bronze Glow - warm bronzey brown
Rose Glow - rosey pink
Mauve Glow - mauvey nude
Mocha Glow - cool cocoa brown
Plum Glow - soft plumberry
WHAT’S NICE ABOUT IT
The formula of the serum is very emollient and gives a very hydrated glow. The plumping effect does have a light tingle but nothing uncomfortable but satisfying. It gives a very full shiny look overall.
I very much enjoy the ingredients of Shea Butter, Avocado Oil, Refined Kiwi Oil, and Argan Oil which Nourish, hydrate, and condition.
WHAT’S NOT SO NICE
The component of the gloss left a lot to be desired for me - I do like the satisfying click as you push up the product but I did not like that you cannot roll it back down. Also, application is a bit messy and undefined as you press the bullet over your lips - it is nearly impossible to not get spillage over the component as well as your lip lines. I find myself having to wipe off the sides before putting the cap back on.
It does state that it’s a melting glossy balm and MELT it does which feels great on lips but not so great to bring in your pocket, purse or car if you are in the warm weather for any length of time. This product does contain some micro-glitters so you may feel the tiniest bit of grit to the formula so if you are not a fan of that it might not be for you in terms of smoothness.
OTHER NICETIES
Free of parabens, formaldehydes, phthalates, mineral oil, and sulfates SLS & SLES.
It is also vegan, gluten-free, and cruelty-free.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Overall, I really do enjoy the formula and am glad I added it to my collection. It does deliver a beautiful plumped glowy look. However, the lackluster application and inability to be brought most places as the summer months approach will likely not make it a repurchase for me. There are just other lip products I adore far more and other Makeup By Mario products I am eager to try.
Have you tried the MoistureGlow™ serums? What are your thoughts?
